Parents of a dyslexic child are launching a class action lawsuit against the Quebec Education Ministry and nine Montreal-region school boards.

Jacques Desgagné and Christine Frigon are demanding, in the name of their child Thierry, that school boards track dyslexic children and provide services adapted to their needs and that they compensate parents for their errors of the past.

The class action suit was approved by Quebec Superior Court Judge Jeannine Rousseau.

If the boy's parents are successful with their lawsuit, school boards would be forced to look for dyslexia among children with learning difficulties and to provide specialized services for them.

The lawsuit could include as many as 100,000 people and could force school boards to pay them compensation.

Okay, these people need to shut the hell up. The Province doesn't owe them anything. First of all, finding out whether a child is dyslexic or not is the parent's responsibility. Too often parents try to hand down everything they're supposed to do to schools, or the government. Not only that, but it's the parent's responsibility to make sure their kid gets 'special' treatment. The public school system is standardized, and there's no room for people who can't keep up. There are special places these kids can go to get help with their schoolwork, it's just gonna cost the parents a little extra.

So to these parents, stop being so damn lazy and do your job. The Education Ministry is not responsible for your child. You are.
